How to work out a lucky 15

Here is our “how to work out a lucky 15 bet” post of the web site, it’s great to know how much you have won and better to know how to work it out yourself, this is how i used to do it the old fashioned way with pen and paper when i was a 15 Year old tearaway. There are of course easier ways like using our calculator 🙂

A lucky 15 is made up of 15 bets outlined below.

4 x singles

6 x doubles

4 x trebles

1 x accumulator (4 fold)

To work out a bet you should work out each of the 15 bets separately then add them together at the end, an example is below.

You have 4 horses selected and all 4 win, happy days indeed and a real bookie basher. Lets call them A, B, C and D.

The prices for the horses are:

A = 4/1

B = 2/1

C = Evens

D = 3/1

First we work out the singles bets, lets say it was a £1 lucky 15 which costs £15 to put on. Horse A won at 4/1 giving us £5 back, Horse B won at 2/1 giving us £3 back, Horse C was evens which = £2 and horse D was 3/1 returning £4.

You should write these down like so for easiness:

Work out the single bets

A = £5

B = £3

C = £2

D = £4

Total return from the 4 single bets is £17

Working out the doubles

Now we need to work out the 6 doubles which make up part of the lucky 15 bet. the singles are again marked out below in an easy to follow way

A – B

A – C

A – D

B – C

B – D

C – D

All you need to do is get the single win from the singles and put that on to the relevant horses above.

Example: A = £5 on to horse B at 2/1 = £15 return ( remember you always get your stake back also.

The wins from doubles would therefore be:

A – B = £15

A – C = £10

A – D = £20

B – C = £6

B – D = £12

C – D = £8

Total Winning From Doubles = £71 + winnings from singles ( £17 ) = £88

How to work out trebles

Working out the trebles is exactly the same as above, you know what the doubles pay so take that ammount and place it on to the third horse.

Example:

A – B – C ( A – B paid £15 – Horse C is Evens making this treble pay ££30 )

The full list of trebles is below

A – B – C ( £30 )

A – B -D ( £60 )

A – C – D ( £40 )

B – C – D ( £24 )

The total won from trebles would be £154 + Double £88 + Singles £17 = 259

Working out the accumulator bet!

The accumulator is your biggest single win and is just a case of rolling each separate win on to the next horse, we already know that A – B – C treble paid £30 so that £30 goes on to horse D. £30 on to a 3/1 = £120

Your total winnings from this lucky 15 would have been £379 + any bonuses such as an extra 10% added for getting all 4 winners which is offered by some of the better bookmakers on the high street.
